Second Minister For Finance Mrs Lim Hwee Hua To Attend United Nations High-Level Advisory Group On Climate Change Financing (AGF) Second Principals' Meeting, 12 - 13 July 2010

11 Jul 2010

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport Mrs Lim Hwee Hua will be in New York from 12 - 13 July 2010 to attend the second meeting of the United Nations High-Level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing (AGF).

This Group was established by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to study ways to finance climate change mitigation and adaptation activities in developing countries, and to make progress on this key issue in the course of 2010.

The meeting will discuss next steps towards developing a final report that will include a study of potential sources of revenue for financing mitigation and adaptation activities in developing countries. This is guided by the Copenhagen Accord, in which developed countries commit to a goal of mobilising jointly US$100 billion a year by 2020. The final report will be submitted to the United Nations Secretary-General and to the current (Denmark) and next (Mexico) Presidents of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties by Nov 2010.

Mrs Lim will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Finance.
