Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam to chair April 2011 meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) and attend the G20 Finance Ministers meeting

      Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will be in Washington, DC from 14 to 16 April 2011 to chair the 23rd Plenary Meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), held in connection with the Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank. The Meeting will discuss current economic challenges and the policy responses needed to ensure a sustained global recovery. It will also discuss reforms to the international monetary system, including issues concerning the management of capital flows and strengthening of the IMF’s role in bilateral and multilateral surveillance. The Meeting will also discuss approaches for supervision of systemically important global financial institutions.

      Minister Tharman will also participate in the Group of 20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' Meeting. In addition, he will be speaking at the annual Bertelsmann Foundation-Financial Times conference on 14 April.

      Minister Tharman will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Finance and Monetary Authority of Singapore.
