Government To Freeze Fee Increases For One Year From Time Of GST Increase

Minister for Education and Second Minister for Finance, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, announced that the Government will put a freeze on all Government fee increases for one year after the implementation of the GST increase.

2. The Government will also absorb fully, on a permanent basis, the GST for school fees[1] and subsidised healthcare services[2], as is currently the case.

3. This was announced by Minister Tharman during a TV forum recording for "A Future Singapore - A Conversation with Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam". The TV forum will be broadcast on Channel NewsAsia at 7.30 p.m. on 30 November 2006.
