940,000 HDB Households to receive GST Voucher – U-Save in October 2020

Larger families (or households with five or more members) will receive 2.5 times their regular GSTV – U-Save rebates as part of the Care and Support Package.

       940,000 Singaporean HDB households will receive their regular GSTV – U-Save this month. Of these households, about 155,000 larger families will receive an additional GSTV – U-Save rebate. This is the third GSTV – U-Save payment this Financial Year (FY2020). In total, all Singaporean HDB households will receive double their regular GSTV – U-Save, with larger families receiving 2.5 times their regular GSTV – U-Save in FY2020. All in, the Government is disbursing $630 million of GSTV – U-Save this FY to support households, particularly the lower- and middle-income households, in lowering their household expenses.

2.     As part of this month’s rebates, the additional GSTV – U-Save rebate supports larger families with higher utilities expenses. Larger families refer to households with five or more members who are living at the same residence as reflected in their NRICs, and who are related by blood, marriage or legal adoption.

3.     Households living in 1- and 2-room HDB flats will typically benefit from GSTV – U-Save rebates that work out to about three to four months of their utilities bills. Together with the GSTV – U-Save Special Payment given earlier this year, these households will receive rebates equivalent to at least six to eight months of their utilities bills.

4.     For households living in 3- and 4-room HDB flats, their regular GSTV – U-Save rebates work out to about one to two months of their utilities bills. They will now receive support which is equivalent to at least two to four months of their utilities bills.

5.     The GSTV – U-Save rebates that households will receive in October 2020 are summarised in the table below.

a. Households whose members own more than one property are not eligible for the GSTV – U-Save. 

b. On top of the regular GSTV – U-Save, eligible households would have received their GSTV – U-Save Special Payment over two quarters (in April 2020 and July 2020). Eligible larger households with five or more members will receive their additional GSTV – U-Save rebate over two quarters (in October 2020 and January 2021).
