$138 Million Utility Rebates for HDB Households in 2008

1. In July 2007, eligible households received the first instalment of Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebates to help low and middle-income households as part of the $4 billion GST Offset Package announced by the Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in the 2007 Budget Statement. (A total of $550 million worth of U-Save rebates will be handed over five years from 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2012, benefiting over 760,000 HDB households.)

2. Come January 2008, each eligible household will receive the second instalment of these U-Save rebates, amounting to between $50 and $110, depending on flat type. The table below shows the disbursement schedule of U-Save rebates for 2008. The rebates for 2008 will cost the Government $138 million.

3. SP Services will notify all eligible households of their U-Save rebates in their January 2008 bill. U-Save rebates will be used to offset utility bills directly. For more information on U-Save rebates, the public can call SP Services at 1800-2222-33
