Some work permit holders pay income tax
27 Jun 2012We refer to Ms Sng Hui Ying’s letter “How many work permit holders pay income tax?” (25 June 2012).
Work permit holders, such as domestic helpers, are generally semi-skilled or unskilled. They are unlikely to earn annual incomes above the taxable threshold of $20,000. Even so, about 10% of the work permit holders paid income tax in 2011.
