Raising Awareness of the Pioneer Generation Package

30 May 2014

We thank Mr Arthur Lim (“Explain benefits for Pioneers in a booklet”, Today, 23 May 2014) and Mr Tan Kok Tim (“Pioneer package needs visual messaging”, Today, 24 May 2014) for their suggestions to have a booklet with information about the Pioneer Generation Package, in four languages, to be sent to all Pioneers as well as to explore other options such as using visuals and advertisements.

We agree on the need for simple and accessible communications to raise awareness of the package and assure our Pioneers of their benefits. The Pioneer Generation Taskforce is focused on this broad-ranging outreach effort.

Besides printed materials, we are producing videos in the four official languages, as well as in dialects for use at community events. These videos explain the Pioneer Generation Package in a simple-to-understand manner. We have also recently run a series of radio advertisements to touch on the various benefits of the package, and will be doing a second run soon.

Apart from our publicity via mass media, Pioneers will be receiving a letter in June, in four languages, informing them of their eligibility for the Pioneer Generation Package and how much MediSave top-up they will receive each year for life. By September, Pioneers will be receiving their personal Pioneer Generation card. As Mr Lim has suggested, the card will be distributed together with a booklet, in four languages, which details the healthcare benefits that Pioneers are entitled to.

In the meantime, Pioneers and their family members can visit www.pioneers.sg, email contactus@pioneers.gov.sg, or call the Pioneer Generation hotline at 1800-2222-888 to find out more details. Information on CHAS can also be found at www.chas.sg, or via the CHAS hotline at 1800-275-2427.
