Parliamentary Question by Ms Elysa Chen:
To ask the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance (a) whether former private hire car drivers who have reached the statutory vocational licence age limit of 75 and now drive only under social carpooling services such as GrabHitch are eligible for support measures such as the $200 cash relief; and (b) if not, what economic support is available to them.
Parliamentary Reply by Second Minister for Finance, Mr Jeffrey Siow:
The $200 cash relief is intended to help self-employed platform workers, taxi drivers, and private hire car drivers whose incomes were affected by the increase in fuel prices. As those only driving under social carpooling services, such as GrabHitch, are not driving commercially, they would not be eligible for the $200 cash relief.
The Government provides targeted support for seniors who had lower incomes during their working years through the Silver Support Scheme. We also brought forward the disbursement of CDC Vouchers and enhanced the Budget 2026 Cost-of-Living Special Payment to cushion the impact of the increase in fuel prices on Singaporeans, including seniors.
