Singapore Contributes an Additional US$10 Million to Pandemic Fund

    Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung announced Singapore’s contribution of an additional US$10 million to The Pandemic Fund at a pledging event held on the sidelines of the G20 Joint Finance and Health Ministerial Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The additional contribution will match Singapore’s initial contribution in 2022, bringing the total to US$20 million. It reflects Singapore’s continued commitment to strengthen the global health architecture in preparation for the next pandemic.

2  The Pandemic Fund was established in 2022 to provide dedicated long-term financing to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response capabilities globally, in particular in low- and middle-income countries, so as to build a stronger global health system.

3  In his intervention at the pledging event, Mr Ong suggested an increased focus in two areas to maximise the impact of The Pandemic Fund. These are global surveillance, and enhancing the abilities of less developed countries to prepare for and respond to future pandemics, especially in upgrading manpower capabilities.

4  Singapore is committed to working closely with the international community to strengthen our collective resilience against future pandemics.
