Parliamentary Question by Mr Ng Shi Xuan:
To ask the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance whether the Ministry can provide the progress of its review on the support provided to NSmen and caregivers which was shared with the House in end-February 2026, including through the provision of tax deductions, cash grants, or other means to recognise them for their contributions and sacrifices.
Parliamentary Reply by Second Minister for Finance, Mr Jeffrey Siow:
MINDEF is exploring enhancements to the NS Housing, Medical and Education Awards for NSmen, as well as measures to commemorate 60 years of NS. Details will be announced in 2027.
For caregivers, MOH and MSF recently announced the introduction of dedicated Caregiver Support Touchpoints (CSTs) to proactively identify caregivers’ needs, explain the types of support available, and connect them to appropriate support, including respite services, training and financial support. The CSTs will be rolled out from 2027. This builds on on-going support and recognition for caregivers, such as flexible work arrangements and tax reliefs. In addition, enhancements to long-term care subsidies, the Home Caregiving Grant, and other support schemes came into effect in 2026, which will help to provide greater financial relief to caregivers.
