Parliamentary Question by Mr David Hoe:
To ask the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance (a) whether the Government will review the Qualifying Child Relief and the Child Relief (Disability), including when the quantum of each relief was last reviewed and what their inflation-adjusted values are today; and (b) whether the amounts or designs of these reliefs should be updated to remain meaningful amid inflation, rising child-raising costs, and broader efforts to support parenthood.
Parliamentary Reply by Second Minister for Finance, Mr Jeffrey Siow:
The Qualifying Child Relief and Child Relief (Disability) were last increased in the Years of Assessment 2009 and 2015 respectively, as part of the broader Marriage & Parenthood package. Over the years, the Government has strengthened support for families, such as through enhanced parental leave and greater support to defray child-raising costs. For example, the new SG Child Support Package announced at this year’s National Day Rally which, taken together with existing benefits, will provide around $70,000 in direct financial support for every Singaporean child.
We will continue to review how to better support Singaporeans in their marriage and parenthood journey. The Marriage & Parenthood Reset Workgroup will publish its full recommendations in early 2027.
