Mr Bobby Chin appointed to lead review on Singapore's Accountancy Profession and Sector

The Government is setting up a high-level committee, called the Committee to Develop the Singapore Accountancy Sector (the 'Committee'), to review the accountancy sector to position Singapore as the leading international centre in Asia for accountancy services and professionals.

Mr Bobby Chin, Chairman of the Tote Board (Singapore Totalisator Board), has been appointed by the Minister for Finance to chair the Committee.

The Committee will undertake a comprehensive review of the accountancy sector and profession in Singapore and make its recommendations to the Minister to position Singapore as the leading professional accountancy centre in Asia. Some key areas the Committee will be looking into include:

(a) Promotion of Singapore as a key provider of accountancy services in Asia;
(b) Positioning Singapore as a leading hub for international talents in the accountancy field; and
(c) Developing Singapore as a regional education and professional training hub for accountancy.

This review, a first of its kind, is timely as the accountancy sector is critical to Singapore's continued growth and success as an international financial and business hub.' said Mr Bobby Chin.

The Minister for Finance will also be appointing up to 14 other senior representatives from the accounting profession, business community, academic and public sector to the Committee. The full composition of the Committee will be announced in November.
