Government Tenders In FY 2008 Projected To Exceed S$8 Billion

The Government will be calling S$8 billion worth of tenders in FY 2008.

Of these, about S$5.8 billion involve building and construction projects which are proceeding as planned^[1]. These include projects to improve traffic on the Central Expressway as well as the Gardens by the Bay projects which will keep the Marina Bay area development on schedule.

Another S$1.2 billion will go towards the purchase of goods and services, such as the supply of equipment, appliances and the operation of the automated toll system at the checkpoints.

Tenders in ICT projects are also expected to be worth at least an additional S$1 billion. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) will be announcing further details on the upcoming ICT projects during their annual industry briefing in May 2008.

Information on these Government tenders can be found in the Government's pre-procurement plan. The pre-procurement plan provides a listing and brief description of potential tenders with an estimated value of S$200,000 and above. It is available on the Government e-Business (GeBIZ) website at http://www.gebiz.gov.sg. Suppliers can do an online search to locate relevant tender opportunities, whether by purchase type (IT, goods & services or building & construction), supplier registration categories or financial category. Details of the contact officer for each potential tender are also provided and enquiries on the procurement opportunity from the suppliers are welcome.

The pre-procurement plan for Government tenders aims to give suppliers early information about opportunities in Government Procurement. Suppliers have thus far found the pre-procurement plan very useful as it allows them to single out the tenders they are interested in so that they can make early preparations before such tender is called.
