Budget Process: Ministry Replies

We thank Dr Vivienne Wee and Ms Edwina Shaddick for their suggestions on the Budget process (“Budget process needs to be more open and inclusive”, ST, 24 Jan).
We would like to clarify that the Budget is always finalised and formally approved by Cabinet after the end of the public consultation phase and all feedback has been considered. The Ministry of Finance typically begins its public consultations on the Budget in November. Most of the feedback is received in December and January, and all feedback submitted before the end of the consultation period is taken into account.
Readers may wish to refer to the Budget 2014 website for more information on the Budget process.
