Ministry of Defence (MINDEF)

The Mission of MINDEF and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is to enhance Singapore’s peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor.

A total budget of $11.46 billion has been allocated to MINDEF in FY2010 towards achieving this mission.

MINDEF aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Singaporeans continue to enjoy a peaceful and secure environment.
  • Singapore continues to have unimpeded access to its air and sea lines of communication.

  • MINDEF and the SAF maintain good defence relations with an extensive network of countries in the region and beyond.

  • The SAF maintains a high state of operational readiness to deter and respond to any conventional or non-conventional threat to Singapore’s security.
  • NSmen can be quickly mobilised to carry out their missions.
  • The SAF equips its servicemen with the necessary skills and knowledge to leverage on technologically advanced weapons and operational doctrines of modern warfare.

    The SAF maintains a high state of operational readiness to deter and respond to any conventional or non-conventional threat to Singapore’s security.
