Duties on Cigarettes

132.

As part of our continuing national effort to discourage smoking, especially among our youth, the excise duty on cigarettes will be increased from $150 to $180 per kilogram. Duties on cigarettes were last revised in February 2000. The changes will take effect from today. The estimated revenue gain is $102 million per year.
