Government is addressing this issue through
a multi-pronged approach. It will
- continue to invest heavily in education. $6.3 bn, or 22%
of Government's total expenditure budget, allocated to Ministry
of Education.
- help everyone in the workforce to upgrade their skills
and knowledgeà more than $30m will be spent on continuous
education and training through the Manpower Development Assistance
Scheme and other initiatives.
- promote lifelong learning: $500m will be contributed to
the Lifelong Learning Endowment Fund in FY2001. This will
bring the Fund to $1 bn.
- continue to draw the best and brightest from the world
to our shores.
