| Although it is
not possible for us to have perfect information
about the future, we do know that some things
never change, like Singapore's small size and
the keener competition that we will face. We therefore
must be prepared for the future.
Singapore has many good things
going for it. We occupy a strategic location in
Asia, the next economic powerhouse of the world.
Domestically, we have a competent Government,
a hardworking and rational people, sound institutions
and, above all, the will to succeed. I am therefore
confident that we will be among the more prosperous
cities of an affluent Asia in the 21st century.
